Interview with Matthew Lucchetti, Author and Entrepreneur
By Dawn Allcot
Writers often find their paths in unique ways. Some grow up knowing they will write books or articles or online content. Others have stories to tell and find the written word to be just one outlet to share their passions.
Matthew Lucchetti, an entrepreneur, coach, executive chef, and community-based marketing expert, didn’t set out to be a professional writer. But he also knew one day he’d be a published author.
“I always thought I would be writing a cookbook,” he quipped. “And that could still happen someday.”
Lucchetti’s path to publication proves: “What You Think About You Bring About.”
That also happens to be the title of Lucchetti’s chapter in Healthy Thinking, Happy Life, an anthology of personal development expert advice published by Denise E. Stegall.
Healthy Thinking, Happy Life: Master Your Mindset and Get $#it Done! is a “collaboration of experts in coaching, mindset and positive psychology who use mindset to help others succeed,” according to the Amazon description. You’ll find simple strategies, inspiring stories, and multiple paths toward success.
Lucchetti’s chapter talks about how we can achieve our wildest dreams through focus and awareness. You have to learn how to “sift out the negative garbage that is holding you back and recognize the signs and positive input to help you achieve your goals,” Lucchetti writes.
His life, so far, is a testament to the success of this training and tactics. In a candid conversation with us, he shared his path to becoming a published author and offers advice for anyone who wants to write a book.
If you have a story to tell, there’s no reason to wait. Open your mind to the possibilities and get it done!
Can you share the story of how you got the opportunity to contribute to this book?
It started with my newfound interest for sharing my story on social media, sharing my passion for mindset. A good friend of mine from first grade reached out to me. We’ve been in contact over the years, thankfully, through social media and Facebook. Denise Stegall authored a few books and now wanted to publish her own. She offered me the opportunity to write a chapter on mindset.
At the end of the day, if I’m out there talking about mindset and belief and manifestation and the thought that anything is possible, how could I deny myself this opportunity to contribute to a book? I’m glad I said yes!
You bring up an important point about relationships and your long-term friendship with Denise leading to this opportunity. What advice would you have for writers in terms of putting themselves out there to build relationships?
I have a true belief that everybody is watching. And the more you get yourself out there, the more people will be watching. If you have something important, something you’re passionate about, to speak or write about, and it comes from the heart, I believe everyone has the possibility of getting followers.
Relationships – and networking – bring you to your next path and your next destination and no one knows what that is. But you have to be open to what that next step is. Sometimes you’ll fail and sometimes you’ll succeed, but every one of those opportunities is going to bring you to your next opportunity.
What can you tell us about the book as a whole, from your perspective?
The book is a great compilation of multiple authors: mindset professionals, life coaches, organizational managers. I think you’ll find something in the book you will relate to, if not multiple people and chapters, that will resonate with you.
Healthy Thinking, Happy Life hit #1 Amazon bestseller in Men’s Health on the second day after its release. What have you been doing to promote it?
I’ve just been sharing it on social media, sharing it with my family, reaching out to people and letting them know I was part of this.
I’ve been using my platform and the platforms of others I’ve influenced along the way, who are sharing this book on stories and reels. I’m asking people for Amazon reviews. We’ve gotten a bunch of reviews from people who have read not just my chapter but other chapters of the book. I’ve also sent a few copies to people who have impressed me and helped me along the way.
What surprised you the most about the process of contributing to a bestselling book?
I guess I always had a love/hate relationship with writing. I wasn’t the greatest student. I went to vocational school because I had that love for cooking.
Public speaking is something I’ve gotten good at. I think the key was finding someone who was able to help me get my thoughts on paper, and then get that paper to the publisher, with a lot less edits coming back than I would have imagined. I was surprised when the editor got back to me, there weren’t that many tweaks. That was exciting to me.
Also, I thought it would be a daunting process, like years, to get a book off the ground. But I guess with Denise’s experience, taking the leap into publishing and working with the right people, combined with how the industry has changed with print-on-demand publishing, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
“I can’t,” became an “I can” really quickly.
What advice would you have for other first-time authors?
Just do it would be the first thing. It’s such a cliché. Stop that imposter syndrome, which happens to so many of us. When we have something uncomfortable thrown our way, it’s so much easier to throw up that block and defense and say “I can’t,” and “I won’t,” and shy away.
To be honest, my first conversation with Denise went that way. Then I spoke to someone else and told them I was given this opportunity. And they said, “Yeah, you can do this.”
The best advice I have is to find someone that’s going to believe in you and work with you to help you get your thoughts on paper, whether that’s an editor, a coach, or a friend.
If you’re a great writer and a great storyteller, then just find yourself a little space and just start writing things down. Almost like brainstorming – put what you want to portray out on paper and then start to organize it or ask someone to help you. Someone who doesn’t know the story can help you organize it, and it will all come together in the end.
Believe in yourself and find someone else who’s going to believe in you and push you to the limits.
