Author Interview with YM Miller

1. When did you start writing?

I started writing during Covid. I say I had nothing to do but really having 3 boys and a kitten that liked to dangle from my little boy’s trousers was more than enough. That initial pieces of writing were hot garbage but isn’t it the same for everyone.

2. What was your journey towards becoming an author like?

I came upon it mostly by accident. I started writing a bit of mainstream fiction-thrillers and crime and then read my first extreme horror and you could say it was love at first stab! I started writing again and found I had a flair for the extreme. I haven’t looked back.

3. What can you tell me about your latest book? (Feel free to include an excerpt.)

My next book-releasing on 15th June is probably my most out there creation yet. There’s Something in Your Mouth is a story about a toxic couple who run and live on a farm. The husband, Matthew, has a dark side and after discovering some of his extracurricular activities in the barn, his wife proposes a solution.

4. What sort of methods do you use for book promotion?

I use Facebook, Facebook groups (interacting with other authors work is super important,) Instagram and TikTok-which I’ve found my audience so that was a great strategy.

5. Where do you get your ideas for stories?

It can be the most random things. Dreams a lot of the time, or news articles that would make interesting stories. Sometimes a random idea will literally just pop into my head.

6. What are you working on right now?

Right now, I’m working on a collaboration with another Indie horror writer. I’m very excited for the finished project, which is still in the early stages. After that, I’m planning another splatterpunk novel - either a Medusa retelling, think feminine rage, or a collection of Splatterific short stories.

7. Any advice for other authors?

Honestly, just do it. Those initial stories are going to suck ass, but keep going. As Dory said, just keep swimming. Write, write, write. Write some short stories, develop your voice, find your style and above all, just have fun with it.
